A woman was seriously injured after a piece of scaffolding went through the door of the car she was driving in Blackwater. Police said the metal pole was shed by an unknown vehicle travelling on the A327 Minley Road.

It struck a black Vauxhall Astra travelling in the opposite direction. The driver, a 33-year-old from Hook, suffered a serious leg injury.

She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for treatment. Hampshire Constabulary said two young children in the car were not injured.
